Citizens Advice in East Dorset & Purbeck are holding a Fuel Poverty Awareness Day for local residents, with support from local and national organisations.
The free event will take place on Friday 2nd December at Ferndown Plus, 10am-2.30pm where advice, warm drinks and a range of items to help support residents this winter will be available free of charge.
Advisers from the Citizens Advice Energy Unit will be on hand to help people who are struggling to pay their energy bills, need help with topping up pre-payment meters or to check to see if there are any other grants or financial support available.
Katrina Ford, Business Development Manager, Citizens Advice in East Dorset & Purbeck, said: “As winter approaches, many residents may be worried about keeping warm and paying their energy bills. We want to be able to provide a one-stop service where they can talk to local support organisations, whilst being able to collect some items to keep warm all whilst having a drink and a chat.”
In addition to Citizens Advice, other local organisations who will be available on the day include: Ferndown Community Support, with the food larder whilst providing teas, coffees and biscuits and Carer Support Dorset who will be offering help and advice about their services.
National organisations who are supporting the event include: Knit for Peace, who have provided free blankets, children’s gloves, scarves, socks and slippers, adults hats and scarves, baby jumpers and warm items to give away.
Free toiletries will be available courtesy of Boots in Ferndown who donate to The Hygiene Bank, a national charity who distribute hygiene products to organisations, charities and schools to address hygiene poverty.
Katrina adds: “Our message to local residents is that there is a wide range of help available, please come and talk to us to see how we can make a difference this winter. We would also like to thank all of the organisations who are giving up their time to be at the event and who have kindly donated products.”
The Fuel Poverty Awareness Day will be held at Ferndown Plus, 5 Library Road, Ferndown, BH22 9JP, on Friday 2nd December, 10am-2.30pm.
