Citizens Advice in East Dorset & Purbeck and Citizens Advice Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole, are urging residents to apply for pension credit before the 21st December deadline.
Pension credit can provide additional financial support, including the winter fuel payment, boosting income to cover daily living expenses. Residents must apply for pension credit by 21 December 2024 to qualify for a 2024 to 2025 winter fuel payment.
Through receiving pension credit residents may also be eligible for other support such as, housing benefit, council tax support and free TV licences. It is tax-free, and people may be entitled even if they have savings or own their home.
Vikki Slade, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole says: “If you’re of state pension age and are struggling financially, it is really important to check whether you are eligible for pension credit before the 21st December deadline. Citizens Advice can help check whether you are eligible, and help you to apply.”
Citizens Advice urge people to encourage relatives, friends or neighbours if they think they may be eligible to apply. Call into one of Citizens Advice drop-ins or outreaches to find out more information and how to apply.
