Citizens Advice in East Dorset & Purbeck is inviting people to apply for a place in next year’s London Marathon.
Following the success of this year’s runner, Gareth Broom from Poole, who raised more than £2,500, the charity is now looking for its next fundraiser to take on the challenge.
Gareth said: “Running the London Marathon this year was an unforgettable experience, not just for the atmosphere and the challenge, but because I was doing it for a local charity that quietly changes lives every single day. Seeing the support from our community and knowing the difference those funds will make meant the world to me. If anyone is looking for a challenge with real purpose behind it, I’d wholeheartedly encourage them to run and raise money for this incredible charity.”
Citizens Advice in East Dorset & Purbeck is an independent charity and relies upon donations, fundraising and grants to run the service. Funds raised will help support their Advice Bus and the charity’s wider work across the community.
Over the past year, over 1,000 people visited the Advice Bus, and since it launched in 2023 more than 3,000 people have been supported. The bus provides confidential, face-to-face help with issues such as debt, energy costs, benefits, housing and cost-of-living pressures, bringing friendly, experienced advisers directly to rural communities.
Paul Gosling, Head of Business, Citizens Advice in East Dorset & Purbeck, said: “We are extremely grateful to Gareth for running the London Marathon and raising funds for us. Demand for our service continues to grow and fundraising is becoming increasingly important in helping us meet local need. If you would like to support a local charity while taking on the challenge of next year’s London Marathon, we would love to hear from you.”
